Soft Crush is a series of irregular love letters. Not a love letter in the conventional sense and not always an idealized lens of love. The series of ‘letters’ plays on the juxtaposition of tensioned textures: one gentle, one violent. This clash made every choice in directing and designing this zine deeply intentional—from the name down to the Rakusui-shi (this specific washi paper peaked my interest appearing lace-like and delicate despite washi historically being known for its strength and ability to stand the test of time).
Pushing the bounds of what a love letter could be depends on the one expressing the seemingly paradoxical idea of love. Each submission is a sign of love, and with that I cannot thank each contributor enough for being so intimate and vulnerable with me and those who open Soft Crush. To be loved is to be seen.
